BECOME A MEMBER OF OUR CLUB

We’re looking for people who want to give back to our local community.

Becoming a Rotary member connects you with a diverse group of people who share your drive to give back. Through regular meetings and events, you’ll:

  • Discuss your community’s needs and develop creative ways to meet them
  • Connect with other leaders who are changing the world
  • Expand your leadership and professional skills
  • Catch up with good friends and meet new ones

REQUIREMENTS OFBECOMING A MEMBERPlease note that membership in a Rotary club is by invitation only. Often, a person being considered for membership is invited by a club member, or sponsor, to attend one or more club meetings to learn more about Rotary. In this case, the sponsor submits the candidate’s name to the club’s membership committee.

What are the qualifications for membership?

Membership of a Rotary Club is by invitation from an existing Club member and subject to approval by a majority of members:

  • Members shall be persons of good character and reputation in their local community, business and/or professional background.
  • Retirees with similar qualifications are also eligible.
  • Community leaders with demonstrated personal involvement in community affairs and a commitment to service.
  • Persons having interrupted employment or having never worked in order to care for children, or to assist a spouse in their work, are also welcomed.
  • Issues of gender, religious or political beliefs, sexual preference and identity, marital status are not considerations of membership.

What are the responsibilities of membership?

Members are expected to attend weekly club meetings. They must pay annual dues to their clubs (which also covers Rotary district and Rotary International affiliation fees), and they’re expected to participate in local or international Rotary club activities or projects. Clubs encourage members to
aspire to club leadership or committee roles.

What are the attendance requirements?

A member must attend or make up at least 50% of club regular meetings or satellite club meetings, or engage in club projects, other events and activities for at least 12 hours in each half of the year, or a proportionate combination of both.

What is the minimum age to be in Rotary?

There is no minimum age to join Rotary. You may be invited to join at any age after you become
established in a career and have the time and financial resources to meet all Rotary club membership requirements. If you’re interested in joining a Rotary club, ask members about the time and financial commitments necessary to fulfil membership requirements, and consider whether you can make those commitments.

Are college students eligible for membership?

No. Rotarians have achieved a level of career experience that enables them to bring a specialisation to their club, and students haven’t yet reached a level in their professional and personal lives that allows them to fulfil all aspects of Rotary club membership. But undergraduate and graduate students,
as well as young adults, may become members of Rotaract clubs.
